Vermont and Vermont South are undoubtedly suburbs that have been developed with a strong family focus in mind. For the most part, housing is low density and many of the houses built in Vermont South in the late 1970’s and early 1980s are generous in size and stature, d have proven popular for internal cosmetic renovations.

Schools

Vermont Secondary College has an impressive reputation built on consistently high results and the pride that they take in making a positive contribution to the global community. Combined with a number of reputable feeder primary schools and the well-regarded Emmaus Catholic College, educational facilities are always ranked highly when people are asked why they are searching for property within the area.

Parks and Recreation

Sporting facilities also feature strongly in Vermont and Vermont South; Vermont Recreational reserve is home to the Vermont Eagles who are one of the most successful clubs in the Eastern Football League, Sportlink a multipurpose indoor sports facility caters for a variety of sports on a casual or permanent basis, Terrara Park is home to the Whitehorse United Soccer Club and of course there is Morack Golf Course which is a picturesque 18 hole course open to all members of the public.

There are many nature-based parklands in the area; Abbey Walk, Campbells Croft and the Dandenong Creek trail provide scenic surrounds as does Bellbird Dell which offers abundant birdlife and covers an area of 17.5 hectares with walking trails, wetlands, ornamental lakes, picnic tables and 2 large sections of play equipment.

Transport, Shopping and Dining

There are numerous bus routes that support Vermont and Vermont South and many of these have drop-off points at nearby train stations. There is also the Burwood Hwy to City tram that starts out the front of the Vermont South Shopping Centre; with 2 supermarkets and a host of specialty shops, it is popular with the locals. The suburb is also well serviced by a variety of restaurants; the two areas with the highest density are found at Vermont Corner (cnr Boronia and Canterbury Road) and also in the area surrounding the Vermont South Shopping Centre.
