Winter is a great time to put your home on the market simply because there is less property for sale, resulting in less competition. But with winter comes shorter days and often those days can be drab. The good news is buyers are still buying property in winter so give your home the best chance at a quick sale by considering the following tips.

In from the cold

Buyers brave enough to venture out on a cold winter’s day will be more likely to linger in your home if it’s warm. Make sure your heating is on and set to a comfortable temperature as people will be moving about when they inspect your home; too hot and they might make a dash for fresh air.

Let there be light

Take a fresh look at your interior on a dull day. Is your home dark or is there a lot of natural light coming in regardless of the weather? Are there dark, unlit and unwelcoming corners in your home? Turn on all your lights to see the difference. Do your globes give off a warm glow or are they cool and bright? Cool globes might be better suited to the kitchen and bathroom areas while warm globes should be using in living and sleeping areas. Use standing lamps for dark, unlit areas.

Rug up

Create a cosy atmosphere with quality woollen throw rugs in your living and sleeping areas.

Inspect the garden

Our gardens tend to be neglected in the winter and the quick dash from a warm car to a warm house can result in not noticing changes. Walk out to your letterbox and assess your garden through fresh eyes then walk to your back fence and do the same. Do leaves or paths need raking/sweeping? Are there deciduous plants that could use a trim? If your garden looks unloved do a thorough tidy up, trim dead foliage and purchase a few potted flowers to brighten things up.

Windows

Clean your windows so plenty of natural light comes in.

Create a mood

Burn candles (non or low fragrant so you don’t turn buyers off) or bake a cake to infuse your home with a ‘homey’ feel.
