Everything in your home is a treasure that you’ve likely worked hard for. Over time, you’ve probably developed fond memories that include the items in your home, so it goes without saying that you want to hire someone you can trust with moving your precious items. The number of removal companies available in your local area can make choosing one extremely difficult.
To help you make a decision on the right removalist for you, we’ve come up with some tips on how to select the perfect moving company.
External Accreditation
The perfect moving company will have a series of certificates and licenses from impartial third parties. This proves that their working methodology has been tried, tested and approved. You should look out accreditation and membership of FIDI, FAIM and AFRA, as well as ISO certification.

Proven Track Record
The perfect removal company will have a proven history of success and enough experience to handle any irregularities that might pop up during a move. A relatively new company may not know how to deal with a blocked access point, or a sudden increase in the volume of your move, so look for experience and success.

Review Sites
Online review sites are an easy way to see how your shortlisted removalists have performed in the past. If they have a poor star rating, or don’t show up at all on WOMO, Facebook or True Local, then it’s best you keep on looking.

Do They Offer A Free Volume Estimate?
It’s virtually impossible to get an accurate quote on moving your home’s contents unless your removalist offers a volume estimate. Never trust a company that gives you a quote over the phone—there’s just too many variables. A quick quote over the phone makes it impossible for you to budget accurately, as the quote can quickly change when they show up on your doorstep to undertake your move.

Insurance Options?
The perfect removalist will provide you with a series of comprehensive and flexible moving insurance options that will protect your treasures in all circumstances.

Public and Staff Insurances
At the very minimum, the perfect removalist will have both Workers Compensation and Public Liability Insurance. Don’t accept a quote until you’ve seen proof of both of these. Without Workers Compensation their staff aren’t protected and without Public Liability Insurance neither you, nor the public, is protect either.

Do They Provide All The Services You Need?
The thing that really sets moving companies apart is the scope of their services. Some will only offer you a couple of removalists and a van (billed by the hour) and the rest is up to you.
If you want something a little more comprehensive, look for a company that provides all those incidental services that you may not have considered like pet transport or packing services. That way they can help you out in all eventualities and you won’t have to find another service provider at the last minute.
We hope these tips will make it easier for you to find a moving company who will look after your treasures and ensure they arrive safely, rather than just moving them from A to B.
