February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and Noel Jones is proud to continue its ongoing commitment to Ovarian Cancer Australia.

As a major Ovarian Cancer Australia sponsor, Noel Jones will ‘Paint the Town Teal’ during the month of February in an effort to raise funds and awareness of this disease that affects over 1,600 Australian women every year

Throughout February Noel Jones staff will wear teal coloured attire, hold ‘Paint the Town Teal‘ fundraisers in each office, raise awareness during open for inspections, via social media channels and via a print and online awareness campaign as well as displaying teal coloured SOLD and LEASED stickers on properties.

Jane Hill, CEO of Ovarian Cancer Australia, said that three Australian women die of ovarian cancer every day.

“Each day, four Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and three will die – that’s almost 100 women every month.” Ms Hill said.

With no early detection test, a key focus for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is to educate Australians on the signs, symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer to increase chances of survival. Only half of Australians know that ovarian cancer exhibits symptoms.

The partnership between Noel Jones and Ovarian Cancer Australia began after Noel Jones employee Miranda Bailey lost her mother Bev to the disease in February 2012. A key component of Noel Jones’ commitment to Ovarian Cancer Australia is a monetary donation from every property sold through a Noel Jones office. Additional donations are collected via fundraiser events, collection tins and attendance at key Ovarian Cancer Australia events.

“After losing Mum to Ovarian Cancer in 2012 I have made it my mission to be an advocate for the cancer.” said Miranda Bailey, Senior Business Development Manager of Noel Jones Camberwell.

“I am an ambassador for Ovarian Cancer Australia and feel proud to have created the partnership between Noel Jones and Ovarian Cancer Australia.“ Ms Bailey said.

By December 2018 Noel Jones had donated over $270,000 which has been put toward raising awareness of the disease, research and support for women who have been diagnosed with the disease.

For the second year Noel Jones staff members will participate in the ‘Walk With Me’ fundraising walk that will take place from Lilydale to Warburton via the Warburton Trail on Sunday 24 February 2019.

Walk with Me was started in 2016 by Sue Contarino, who walked 42kms from Lilydale to Warburton to raise funds and awareness for Ovarian Cancer Australia. In the first year of Walk with Me, Sue raised over $12,000 and in 2017, she raised an extraordinary $73,000.

On Wednesday 3 May 2017, Sue sadly passed away, losing her long battle with ovarian cancer. However, Sue’s legacy lives on and in 2018, with Sue in our hearts and minds, Walk with Me raised $80,000.

“Join me and Noel Jones staff members on the Walk with Me fundraising event to remember my mum, Sue and other women affected by this cancer. Together we can make a difference and change the statistics for Ovarian Cancer for the better.” said Ms Bailey.

Staff from Noel Jones offices will walk or run all 42kms of the trail or join at any point along the track. All money raised by Walk with Me will go towards high impact research and telephone, face to face and online support for women living with ovarian cancer and their families, two programs that were close to Sue’s heart.

Australians can also show their support by hosting their own ‘Paint the Town Teal’ event through the month of February; or by purchasing and wearing a teal ribbon particularly on Teal Ribbon Day, Wednesday 27th February 2019.
