Ringwood, which incorporates Ringwood North and Ringwood East, is a suburb in Melbourne’s outer east that is becoming known for all the right reasons; it is now more than ever a destination suburb with an abundance to offer.

23kms east of Melbourne’s CBD and primarily used for agriculture, Ringwood emerged in the mid to late 19th century after the 1850’s land sales, however, it transpired as a more notable town after construction of the Hawthorn to Lilydale railway through the suburb in 1882. In 1924 the railway was electrified and the town was further developed marking major growth for Ringwood.

Shopping and Dining

Moving forward 80 years and that growth is continuing in earnest; large companies are continuing to show a great amount of faith in Ringwood. In 2013 Victoria’s second Costco opened its doors allowing scores of new people to visit the suburb for the first time. In October 2015 the first stage of the $665 million dollar Eastland expansion opened, welcoming retail giants like H&M, Uniqlo, David Jones and an array of high profile designer stores; feedback from the general population has been incredibly positive and many are travelling east to shop now, rather than heading for the CBD or to other established shopping precincts.

Aiding the popularity is the fabulous Town Square that houses a variety of signature restaurants and an alfresco dining area, plus a local Brewery ‘The Cellar Door’ which showcases the food and wine of the Yarra Valley region and is complete with a rooftop bar.

Housing

Another popular addition is the new Aquanation complex that opened its doors in August 2015, costing approx. $50 million dollars. Coupled with the $66 million dollars that has been spent to provide modern, integrated transport facilities for Ringwood, plus its close proximity to Eastlink, it’s not hard to see why it’s getting a lot of attention in the media and also from home buyers who have a wide variety of housing styles to choose from. There are sleek apartments on offer with many more approved for construction in coming years, new townhouses, post war homes, large family homes in Ringwood North and many popular weatherboard dwellings in the tree lined streets of Ringwood East.

Parks, Recreation and Schools

The variety of prices and housing types creates a suburb that has appeal to a wide demographic, with the greenery and bushland appeal of Ringwood Lake, Wombalono Park and the strong public and private educational facilities such as Ringwood Secondary College, Aquinas College, Yarra Valley Grammar and Tintern Grammar being a strong drawcard to families.
