Winter styling that gives a warm welcome

In winter we tend to bunker down and spend more time indoors. If you home is on the market it is important to present your property to reflect the new season. Now that open for inspections have resumed after the easing of the recent restrictions, itโ€™s time to spruce up your place and present it in the best light.

Lighting
Winter brings duller days and generally less sunshine, look at how light and bright your home actually is. If your lighting is poor, add in lamps to create more illumination and a softer mood. Replace any blown globes or repair downlights as it is most likely the lights will be turned on during your open home inspections.

Remove Lace Curtains
The aim is to bring in as much natural light as possible into your home, so you can afford to do away with those lace or voile curtains. Even though they are see through they still block some of the daylight. Ensure all blinds and curtains are operable and fully open.

Fireplace
Do you have an open fire or fireplace with an electric or gas heater in your living space? In winter this should form the focus of the room, so capitalise on it. Orientate the furniture to create a cosy and intimate setting, helping the potential buyers imagine themselves warming themselves by the fire on a cold, winterโ€™s night. Decorate the mantel with lovely vessels, candles or plants, add in a large floor rug to give you extra comfort under foot.

Swap out the cushions & bed linen
One of the easiest ways to introduce winter into your home is to go out and buy some of this seasonโ€™s warm coloured cushions and bedlinen. Even if you donโ€™t improve anything else in your home, doing this one thing will really breathe life and warmth into the spaces. So invest in some good quality cushions, throws, doona and sheets to really add a sense of luxury and cosiness. You will be able to take them with you when you move on, enjoying them for months to come.

Decoratorโ€™s tip
I always recommend burning fragrant candles throughout your home a couple of hours before the open for inspections, extinguishing just before you leave. Opt for more nurturing scents such as vanilla or caramel to create a warm welcome.
