8 things you might be forgetting to spring clean

Aside from the usual weekly cleaning such as vacuuming, mopping and cleaning the bathrooms, there are other areas of your home that might need some much needed attention. Now that spring is well and truly here, get inspired to do a more deep clean to really make your home sparkle.

1. Door knobs & light switches
Letโ€™s face it door knobs and light switches are one of the most commonly touched items in your home. They cope with a lot of dirty mitts handling them on a daily basis. Giving them a good wipe down will make your rooms appear cleaner.

2. Light fixtures & ceiling fans
Dust and grime has a tendency to build up over winter, especially if fans are not in use. Get up and give the blades a good dust. Clean pendant lights, especially if they are glass.

3. Grout
Is your white grout looking murky or patchy? Get down with a scrubbing brush and really get into those grooves. For a natural method, use baking soda and water.

4. Bookshelves
Bookshelves can get quite dusty over time. Go through shelf by shelf, removing each book or object one by one. Why not declutter as you go?

5. Inside your kitchen drawers
Toast crumbs in amongst your cutlery or your tea towel drawer overloaded with dishevelled napery?
Donโ€™t fuss over how it happened, just get in, clear out all items, wipe down inside of drawers and place back in neatly.

6. Top of window frames and pelmets
These are areas that you rarely see, but trust me there will be a build up of dust and grime lurking there.
Get up on your step ladder, vacuum and wipe down the tops of architraves and mouldings, as well as any pelmets you have.

7. Upholstered Furniture
Bring out all your vacuum attachments, pull out the seat & back cushions and really get into the nitty gritty places to give your sofas a good refresh.

8. Rugs
Rugs sure do take a beating, so why not get them professionally cleaned? There are businesses in Melbourne who will come and collect your rugs, take them away for a good clean and deliver back to you sanitised and like new. Doing this on a yearly basis will help your rugs last longer.
