Same old furniture, whole new style – how to create a home retreat during self-isolation

During this unprecedented time in history, of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is uncertain as to when it might end, so you might be starting to look around your home and realise you are living in an uninspiring space & putting up with make do furniture & furnishings. Here’s some ways you can breathe new life into your home without leaving the house.

Remove unnecessary pieces
Take a good hard look at the amount of furniture you have in your home. Most of us have too much stuff in our homes that can only cause visual clutter. Now is a perfect time to finally decide to remove that old chair that blocks the hallway, cull some of your photos or artwork on the walls or even the pile of papers that permanently sits on the dining table. Taking away all the visual clutter, you can actually see what you have in a whole new light.

Repair or launder soft furnishings
How long has it been since you gave your cushion covers or the throw rug a good wash? Those curtains look really grubby now that you are looking at them all day every day. Checking the care label, you may be able to hand wash them bringing them up as good as new.

Rearrange your space
A decorator’s tip is to take everything off a shelf then start from scratch and only put back what you really love. Try re arranging the items in a different way, grouping by colour, similar shapes or theme, to make your shelf more visually appealing. Take a cue from Pinterest and search up “vignettes” you’ll be inspired to change up your mantelpiece, I promise.

Bring some of the outside in
Think of bringing some pot plants inside for a time to breathe new life into your room. Do you have flowers blooming in your garden? Why not cut flowers or even some greenery and place in a vase.

DIY projects
Tired of the old timber dresser you have owned for decades, but it is still in good condition? Why not try revamping it by painting it. Annie Sloan paints are a good quality furniture paint which are so easy to use and available in a huge range of colours. Buy online to save you any unnecessary travel.
