Spring gardens with wow factor

When selling property, it’s essential to make a strong first impression, and with spring on our side, it’s easier than ever to put some spring zing into your property with some simple gardening tips. While the most attractive homes attract the most interest, you might also enjoy some spring sunshine too!

Tidy Up – First things first. Remove any dead plants or foliage, tidy up overgrown trees and bushes, mow lawns, trim hedges and edges, sweep up leaves, do the weeding and remove any rubbish – or appoint someone to do it for you. Also consider any paintwork, fences, gates and windows that may need attention – and the letterbox too.

Pretty It Up – With a clean slate, it’s time to take an objective look and consider adding plants that will best suit your sales campaign. Flowering seedlings can add bright splashes of colour just when you want them, while large, strategically placed pots create an instant effect. Many of today’s buyers favour low-maintenance gardens, so visit your local nursery for advice on the annuals or perennials that will best suit your garden, aims and budget.

A Pot With The Lot – Potted plants can work wonders, both inside and out, especially given the array of stylish pots and creative options available today. Whether terra cotta, stone or resin, and whether planting a striking cactus, pretty purple cordyline or tall pool-side palm, a carefully considered potted plant easily makes a stunning feature piece.

Edible Gardens – With ‘grow your own’ an increasing back-to-basics trend, even a small kitchen garden can create instant buyer appeal. Everyone loves the idea of plucking their herbs fresh, picking crisp lettuce to toss a quick salad, or ripping up some carrots or potatoes with the kids. Edible gardens are inexpensive to set up, whether from seed or seedlings, and whether direct in soil, in planter boxes, or pots, while also making very attractive borders.

Lastly, don’t forget to give the entrance a makeover. Think about a thick, welcoming doormat, an umbrella stand, a stunning potted plant for instant appeal, a new doorbell, a fresh coat of paint for the front door, or even a new door. After all, a few relatively inexpensive strategies can really wow buyers – and pay for themselves many times over.
